I helped start the creatives team at Evangelical Chinese Church. For a community of over 1,800 members and multiple languages, one of the major difficulties was that each congregation was producing its own content haphazardly - there was no system or process to funnel all the design requests to one source. Therefore, the need for a creatives team was apparent. Now, after several years, some notable things the team has helped with are: ECC’s rebrand, Instagram account, service experience, themed sermon graphics, printed materials, event promotions, camp and retreat designs, and much more.

The Rebrand

The first initiative the creatives team tackled was giving a new look and feel to the church. The brand book was developed in order to establish stylistic rules and guide designers on how to use the ECC logo, colors, and font.

Print

The culture of ECC involves people of all ages and generations. While many members are tech-savvy, it is important to note that there are those who still prefer something tangible over technology- that is why ECC still relies heavily on print. The team focused on redesigning the out-facing printed materials such as the newcomer brochure, small group info cards, newsletters, and contact/overview handouts. Another was the bulletin, which is handed out to congregants weekly. The bulletin was designed in a way that the cover could be changed depending on the sermon topic. All these publications were also translated into Chinese.

Digital

For digital materials the team focused on creating powerpoint slides, website content, and social media. Slide design included sermon series templates and announcements. The announcements were also resized for multiple platforms- powerpoint, web banners, posters, and Instagram posts.

For the tech-savvy audience of ECC, the team created @eccupdates on Instagram. It is used to communicate weekly announcements and to engage the congregants through devotions, scripture verses, and praise reports (submitted by ECC’s members).
